The book, A Handmaid’s Tale, written by Margaret Atwood is a science fiction novel about women’s oppression. After the President and most of Congress is killed, the U.S. Constitution is suspended and men take away all women’s rights. Women’s money, jobs, and independence is completely removed including their rights to own any possession, to read, and to make decisions. Women’s only purpose is to bear and raise children and please men. This book may be based on science fiction, but today the reality is that women still are discriminated against in many areas throughout the world.
